About Viable Paradise

Viable Paradise is a unique one-week residential workshop in writing and selling commercial science fiction and fantasy. The workshop is intimate, intense, and features extensive time spent with best-selling and award-winning authors and professional editors currently working in the field.

The first Viable Paradise workshop was held in 1997, as part of a science fiction convention presented by the 501(c)3 non-profit Martha’s Vineyard Science Fiction Association Ltd. Since then, the workshop has been an annual event that has improved the craft of over 500 science fiction and fantasy writers.

Many Viable Paradise alumni have applied the lessons learned at VP to their writing careers. VP alumni have gone on to be nominated for and win the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy, Astounding Award for New Writers (then called the Campbell Award), and Andre Norton Awards. Many more have gone on to sell novels to trade publishers, sell stories in professional short fiction markets, and build successful e-publishing careers.
